Potential disaster has struck at New York Jets training camp, as quarterback Justin Fields was carted off the field with what appeared to be a lower body or foot injury on Thursday morning, according to FOX Sports NFL Reporter Ralph Vacchiano.
Vacchiano noted that Fields initially limped off the field after what was the fifth play of team drills.
Fields signed a two-year, $40 million deal with the Jets in March. He joined New York after spending the 2024 season with the Pittsburgh Steelers, starting the first six games of the season but then being benched for veteran Russell Wilson. Across the six starts and 10 combined appearances that he made, Fields totaled 1,106 passing yards, five passing touchdowns, one interception and a 93.3 passer rating, while completing 65.8% of his passes. Fields also rushed for 289 yards and five touchdowns.
Prior to being acquired by Pittsburgh in 2024, Fields spent the first three seasons of his NFL career with the Chicago Bears (2021-23), who traded up to select the quarterback with the No. 11 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft out of Ohio State.
If Fields misses time, New York’s quarterback room includes veteran Tyrod Taylor, who has made 58 career NFL starts, Adrian Martinez and undrafted free agent Brady Cook. New York is in its first season with former team cornerback and Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn as its next head coach.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
