Illinois ahead Morez Johnson Jr. is out indefinitely after breaking his wrist whereas making a spectacular block over the weekend.

Coach Brad Underwood introduced the severity of Johnson’s damage on Monday. Underwood stated the damage occurred when Johnson fell to the ground after blocking a shot throughout Illinois’ 79-65 loss to No. 14 Michigan State on Saturday.

The damage means Johnson will not be obtainable Tuesday when Illinois (17-9, 9-7 Big Ten) visits No. 11 Wisconsin (20-5, 10-4).

“I really feel horrible for that younger man,” Underwood advised reporters. “What an unbelievable play. It is probably the greatest I’ve seen in a very long time. Sadly, that damage occurred.”

Underwood stated Johnson’s potential return date is unsure.

“He fell, he hit the ground fairly exhausting and was powerful sufficient to bounce up and simply say, ‘Tape it,'” Underwood stated. “That impacted a few his shut misses on the rim as nicely late within the sport. He is in a solid. No timeline to that at this level. So we’ll strap it up and have to maneuver ahead with out his presence.”

Though Johnson averages simply 17.8 minutes per sport, he has averaged 6.6 rebounds to rank second on the workforce. The 6-foot-9 freshman has averaged 7.2 factors and 1.1 blocks per sport in 26 appearances, together with eight begins.
